Between Christmas & New Years

Fireworks!
Someone on the beach set off some nice fireworks tonight.
A few more went off on the 27th as well.
My kind of neighbors, here's hoping there will be more.

It's a beautiful day, time to go on a walk on the beach.
The blue sky is uplifting.
This is a blue crab just hanging out on the beach until the tide takes him out again.
Pretty easy to understand how it gets its name.

After my walk I watched some Sunday football on the outside tv,
and as I looked to my left and thought
this meadow and barbed wire fence are quintessential Texas.
For the most part this coastal Texas is not the stereotypical Texas
that I think of, I haven't even seen a cowboy.

We went to East Beach to watch some ship activity
Ships came in and out of the port, while about 20 stayed out on the horizon.

According to Google Lens
this ship is an auto carrier,
it was the largest ship we saw today.

Jim read on the beach while I walked out on the jetty.

It is broken up in several places
making it a little hard to walk on.

The waves splashed over the jetty
and based on this seaweed covered rock
it washes over quite often.
The waves also make it scary to walk on.

Here is a clip of the waves washing over the wall.
And to end the day we finished putting together a puzzle from Mike & Sarah.

It's a lazy non scheduled day today, so I walked on the beach.
The skies were clear and the gulf was active.

Active enough to wash up a crab trap.
I have been amazed by the pelicans that fly over the beach,
they look so smooth in the sky.  I realize its not the best video
but its the best I have gotten while here.  Please enjoy this snippet of pelicans in flight.

Well the forecast is for rain today from 10 am until 5 pm
that says to me, walk in the morning.
The sun was trying to break through some clouds.

It's foggy looking west , normally I can see a second water tower down the beach.

A few people are on the beach walking dogs or out for a run
but for the most part it feels like just me and the birds.

There is currently a tornado watch in place, which is enough for the beach crew to try and secure all the garbage cans by inverting them on the posts that mark the beach access points.

This is low tide, but with the wind coming off the Gulf a lot of the beach is covered by the waves.

Our neighbor left a swim ring which we picked up for future use
and then decided to pick up another one that has been in the field next to us.
So we got out an extension pole (used in cleaning the RV)

A successful retrieval.
Perhaps you will see the swim rings in use in a future blog.
Cold snap here so it won't be from here, but lots of travel ahead.

And later as promised the rains came
Here is us inside on a rainy day.

And yes, there were fireworks for about an hour and a half on New Year's Eve which we could see from the comfort of the RV.  Thanks neighbors on the beach for a fine show,
and thanks to Rod Tuffcurls and the Bench Press for streamed NYE concert.

May your new year bring you new joy and adventures.

It's chilly this morning, but the sun is shining.  We walked on the beach
this morning and then its football all day.
And as luck would have it more fireworks tonight as well.

  1. RoRo row your boat, gently down the (gulf) stream.

    (auto carriers are crazy looking)

  2. I have been informed that the RoRo pun was NOT one of my best. (Even tho the rest set a very low bar)
