Garner State Park
January 22, 2021
Time to get in another good hike so we are off to Garner State Park in Concan, Texas.
Smiling on the trails, we love to be out hiking.
And of course, it is uphill
The views from the trail are grand.
Uh oh, this does not feel like the trail. I must have followed the wrong path. So we back tracked and searched for the real trail. At this park the blazes are yellow footprints.
The blazes are painted on the trail, sometimes the paint is wearing away.
Do you see the trail blaze in this photo?
I appreciate the blazes being low as you spend a lot of time looking down at our feet since the trail is rocky and uneven.
This is the correct trail, it has a blaze on it. Happy to be back on track.
Jim enjoying the Texas Hill Country views
We made it up to the top!
At the top we also found this pile of rocks and a flag. So of course we posed this picture.
Yes, it was a beautiful day, warm enough to hike in shorts.
Looking out over Rio Frio
After finishing the Old Baldy Trail we continued on the Foshee Trail
Here there is a rock fence that runs for 0.75 miles, the origin of the fence remains a mystery.
People have been here for 10,000 years, no one knows who put the fence here or when.
A spiky plant pops up along the trail, we try not to brush by its spiky leaves
It was a blue sky day, my favorite kind of day.
fortunately parts of the trail are shaded
There was some mud on the trail (rained here recently) but this was the second bridge we went over that was completely dry underneath, overall the area is dry.
Here is Jim stepping down the rocks while bobbing and weaving around some tree branches, it was an adventurous hike.
Old Baldy and Rio Frio taken from the White Rock Cave trail
Here I am outside of White Rock Cave, it is a small cave only goes in a few feet.
Our route: Old Baldy Trail to Foshee to Campos to Donovan to Bell to Foshee to Bird to White Rock Cave Trail, total distance 4.7 miles, with 7,000 feet of elevation changes.
We sat down by the river after finishing the hike and enjoyed a small bag Famous Amos cookies from the Auto Broker. Another good day.

Saturday, time to get some chores done like the laundry and organize the new truck.
fortunately its very similar to our original truck layout
Jim also needs to reattach, the tire monitors, the ladder on the tailgate, the dash cam. . . now which fuse do we need to connect the dash cam to this took some trial and error and a google search.
We have decided to book out the rest of our stays so that we have places booked and don't have any last minute notice that there is no room at the inn or in our case no RV park for us to stay at. Well planning all this out is overwhelming and anxiety inducing. It takes hours to find a place we would like to stay then get it booked. With all that in mind as of typing of this we are booked thru 3/25/21 with a message left at an RV place for 3/25- 4/1/21. To relieve anxiety, I baked some cookies.
Raisin Puffs.
Another good day.
January 24, 2021
Woke up to a very foggy day.
There was an on again off again misty drizzle, but not enough to dissuade me from taking a walk in the woods. Come join me, watch out for the low branches.
Aah, we are quiet enough to catch sight of this snowy white egret.
What has caused all of these roots to be exposed, water of course.
The misty rain has made everything a little slippery, but for some reason today is the day I climbed on top of rocks to get shots of the water. Here on the right side of the tree
And the left of the tree
A little wet but still smiling
The water seems higher today with last night's rain.
Some birds in the river
and then they flew off
Rio Frio looks fun!
ReplyDeleteAlthough at first I misread it as Rio Frito. So much for reading the blog on an empty stomach! ;)
I see the rocks were close enough together so one could get across the water.
ReplyDeleteHence, the [James] Garner Rockford.
(Yes. I really need to get out more or find a hobby lol)
