Getting Ready for Steady Travel
February 2, 2021
We bought a truck that came with only one key. We want two so we ordered a key on amazon. It arrived no problem. We called a locksmith to program the key. We waited for him on Thursday, he did not show. We called Friday morning and he said, not today, Monday. He came on Monday but he was unsuccessful with programing the key. He left, no charge for no success. Jim called another locksmith, he did not program car keys. So we made an appointment at the local Dodge dealer for Tuesday at 3:00 pm. They could not program the key from Amazon. They did not have a blank Dodge key for the truck. They said they had to charge us anyway. I suggested half price for no success and the manager agreed. They did cut the door key so I can get in and out of the truck with it but it will not start the push button ignition. We will try a dealer when we get to Tucson in three weeks and pay for a blank Dodge key and have it programmed. Frustrating but fixable.
We are now booked in campgrounds thru August 8, 2021 and then we will be in Michigan and that state opens up campground sites 6 months in advance which means I need to try and book the next site on 2/9/21 and one every week until I get to booked up to 8/31/21. Almost done.
Now its time to concentrate on moving on to Big Bend Thursday morning. It feels good to get traveling again. Tomorrow we will fill up with gas, buy enough groceries for two weeks (not expecting anything but small shops where we will be), check the tires, stow away the outdoor mat and chairs, map out the route to make sure its RV safe, pay for our electric use here at this site (most places include the electric but this one uses a meter) so we can leave first thing Thursday. 475 miles of driving to arrive at our next stop.

Now time for one last walk at the campground.
Cue the South Texas driving music.
