Prince Gallitzin State Park, PA

We drove to Prince Gallitzin State Park from Cook Forest, twisting around on various highways through small towns on a cloudy day.

After setting up camp we kayaked from the beach near our site to the dam at the far end of Glendale Lake, 3.8 miles in an hour and a half. note kayak under back of RV and items drying on picnic table.

The lake is a short walk from our site, here is the view from the shore by our site.

We set out Saturday morning to hike the Point Trail, but the sign said Trail Closed, well maybe that is just the connector trail, so Jim said let's go for it.

Sure enough we got to the Point Trail and started hiking and following the yellow blazes.  And then the blazes got harder to find, and then stopped, but wait there are Purple blazes over here.  Okay maybe this trail was closed.  We took the purple blazes and were led back to the Campground trail.

Took a spur to see Wyerough Marina where locals can keep their boat on the lake for the season.
All in all it was 4.47 miles hiked.

It's a football Saturday and Notre Dame is on NBC.  Local channels that come in here at the campsite, ABC, CBS, and FOX.  No NBC, so we streamed the radio feed.

Another sign of fall, leaves changing color.

After an Irish victory we drove up to Headache Hill scenic view. (no idea how it got that name)
the view looks at Glendale Lake to the left
and to the right there is Salt Lick
We climbed the water tower there for a slightly higher viewpoint

And on Sunday we head to Patton, PA to go to the 9:00 am mass.  We arrive to a full parking lot at 8:45 am only to find out that mass started at 8:00 am.  (and what road is paved with good intentions)
Off to the BiLo for groceries, followed by a stop at the Mud Lick Gazebo.

well a rainy day does make for some vivid color

Chores continue with washing the laundry up at the Camp Store.  Fortunately they put up a tent and some tables outside so we played cards while the wash ran.
(for the official record, Jim won the Phase 10 card game)

Jim settled in to watch some Sunday football, but with a little energy and a text from Mary saying that I would most likely hike even if it rained, encouraging me, I hiked the Campground Trail again, this time in the opposite direction, and in the rain.

Solo hike on a rainy Sunday, still smiling.
Raindrops and reflection in the lake

A break in the rain allows time to cook up some bacon, while keeping an eye on the game.

Well thanks for a good time Prince Gallitzin, tomorrow we head to Bald Eagle State Park.

  1. Never realized how big Pennsylvania was. I think there is "grand canyon" somewhere in the state? Looks like you are finding wonderful state parks to hike and kayak. How does the TV reception work, do you have an antenna?

    1. Yes, we have been previously to Pine Creek Gorge which is known as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania with Matt and Mike when they were younger. TV reception works on over the air channels. We have an antenna on the RV that we can crank up when we want to watch tv. Reception is variable based on where we camp.
