White Oak (Creekside) Campground, AL

 October 15, 2020

It was a short drive today, only 96 miles to Eufaula, Alabama.

Yes, we are north of Florida for the first time since October first.

The campsite is nice, that is once we finally got it backed in.

You know that fishing is a thing here
every campsite comes with a table to clean fish.
(see square table to the right of the tree).
lakeview

The issue we had was with the transition from driveway to pad
there was a dip then rise.  Our rear jack supports were too low to clear.
So we parked like an Egyptian - moving one 12" square wood board at a time
to raise the wheels so the jack would clear the ground.
Can't wait to do it all again on the way out.

Time for some lunch at our site and enjoy the lakeview.

Time for a walk down the beach.
This is a Core of Engineer Campground
most of the sites are beachfront.
Just past the campsites . . .
The shoreline is a little tenuous for these trees.

It's amazing this tree is hangin on.

After our walk I checked the rules on firewood
and noted it was okay to gather downed wood.
Easy enough, lots of wood on the beach, as dry as driftwood
from a fallen tree at the site next to mine.

It made a lovely fire
which means camp pizzas for dinner.

Time to put a new toy to use
the hand chain saw
Worked like a charm for cutting the larger pieces.
It still is work, but efficient work.

Then there was a good sunset.

The skies darkened, the stars came out.
We could even see the milky way.
It was a very good day.

This morning we went out in the kayak.
It was relatively easy going on the creek.
However, when we headed out to Walter F George Reservoir the
wind picked up the water had a chop to it.
Okay so maybe we will keep to the creek today.

After our kayak we headed to town for grocery shopping,
check out the town of Eufaula
and stop by Marvin's to get some wood.
We bought two eight foot boards that Jim
cut in half to end up with 4 4 foot boards.
This should make getting out of the campsite
easier without damaging the rear jacks.

Then some relaxing by the lake

And a stroll around the campground
Great blue heron hung out with us.

Another great sunset.

Happy to report that the placement of the wood planks over the dip between the pad and the driveway along with taking off the landing pads on the rear jacks
was SUCCESSFUL.  Yes, I am very excited that it was a one shot departure and not an eight time movement twelve inches at a time to get out.
Very pleased that we were able to completely avoid any issue at all.
Onward to Georgia and Shoal Creek Campground.
